This shorter Archipelago Trail is a 3 day circular self-guided cycle tour across Turku Archipelago. You will be visiting both small towns and the island villages connected by bridges and ferries. You can also visit the famous island of Seili with a cruel history.
Individual arrival to Turku from where your journey starts the next morning. Accommodation in a hotel in city centre. Explore Turku, the oldest city in Finland. You are welcome to store extra luggage at the hotel during your tour.
Cycling day 1:
Turku - Nauvo/Nagu, 55-60 km
The first day of cycling will take you through the small archipelago towns of Kaarina and Parainen/Pargas before arriving at the island of Nauvo/Nagu by ferry. Parainen offers great opportunitites for a detour if you want to explore a big open limestone mine or museums. There are also several idyllic cafés and handicraft shops. Your accomodation in Nauvo will be in the tiny but lively Nauvo village or in the country side.
Day 2:
Nauvo - Naantali, 30-40 km
After breakfast you will start by boarding the morning or midday ferry over to Rymättylä. The ferry ride is about one hour. You can also stop by the island of Seili and get to know this island with a cruel history, now the Archipelago Research Institute. From Seili you can continue to Rymättylä with the ferry. Soon after the harbour you can stop and climb up to the WW2 air surveillance tower for a view over the islands. Your accommodation is a little bit outside Naantali. In the evening you have time to explore the cosy wooden houses in the city center and restaurants along the shore line.
Day 3:
Naantali - Turku, ~15 km
The third day is only a short distance back to Turku. Individual departure from Turku, alternatively spend the day and an optional night in Turku.
